The Bshirt is co-founded by two friends with 8 years of breastfeeding experience between them, Lisa Lessware and Philippa Doyle, who live in the glorious English countryside where they are raising their fun-loving families.
How the Bshirt was Born
Oroginally from the United States, Lisa studied abroad in Europe and loved it so much she decided to stay. Lisa lived in London for 10 years before starting a family and moving to the countryside. After her first son was born, Lisa volunteered at her local community center advising new mothers on breastfeeding issues through the same organisation she herself received help and assistance. Very often she would see women embarrassed about feeding in public, wearing intricate breastfeeding clothes that restricted the feeding access for the baby and they were unable to achieve a good position and latch as a result.
She often suggested to women that they cut holes in a T-shirt to wear as an undershirt as she herself had found it to be a great solution when she fed both her sons. The ones that were brave enough to try this method were thrilled at the freedom it allowed them; suddenly they were back in their own clothes and feeling like themselves again. Many remarked to Lisa that her suggestion helped them to breastfeed for longer than they had initially hoped.
Philippa is originally from southern England and also spent 10 years living in the capitol (London) before seeking greener pastures for family life. It was when Philippa was pregnant with her second son that she and Lisa met - at a pregnancy yoga class of course!
Eventually Lisa started making breastfeeding undershirts for friends and one day she showed her creation to Philippa. Philippa loved the idea but wondered if there was a way to make the breastfeeding tops so that they could be worn on their own if the mother got too hot and wanted to take off her top layer without looking like something out of Ann Summers!
Lisa and Philippa spent 2015 and 2016 perfecting the designs of their breastfeeding vest, which is unique in the market. They intend to develop their breastfeeding clothes brand further, offering different styles and colours.
